  • People Will Always Reject Change.

There’s been a lot of bitching and moaning about the current and upcoming Facebook updates. While I think the current news feed situation is confusing and the live feed is interesting but unnecessary, I am kind of anxious for the Facebook Timeline coming out.

The major complaints revolving around the Facebook Timeline usually go something like, “OMGSH! I don’t need to be reminded of my past!” and “I don’t need my new boyfriend to see the things I said to/about my ex!” and “I don’t want people seeing everything I ever posted!” Basically, it comes down to people not wanting to look back at their past embarrassing selves  statuses. Face it, we all did and continue to say and do stupid things. It’s part of growing up. If you can’t learn to laugh at yourself sometimes and not take yourself seriously, then I don’t know what to tell you. If you think something you said is stupid and embarrassing, then fucking delete/hide it. You can do that, you know. Plus, how is this Timeline ANY DIFFERENT from another blog site’s archive? If you blog on a regular basis, whether it be on Tumblr, Blogger, Xanga, etc., you will have an archive where people have access to entries you wrote and posted online years ago. So unless it’s not a personal type of blog, it’s the exact. same. thing.

So people really need to stop complaining about a website evolving. I think it’ll be nice when I can finally easily access my status when my fiance first proposed to me and such without clicking on “older posts” a thousand times before getting to it. It’s like a virtual scrapbook or a time capsule. Everyone has done and said embarrassing things and will continue to do so. So quit threatening to switch to Google+ just because you can’t deal with change. Everything evolves. Deal with it.

  • Family Additions. <3

For awhile now, Trav and I have been strongly considering the possibility of introducing a new kitten/cat into our small family. We've been going back and forth on it for about a month as Duchess is our main concern. I've had Duchess since the summer before 4th grade when she was just a kitten. She grew up with me pretty much by herself with the exception of a couple other cats we had for a brief time. She naturally "rebelled" and acted out but she got over it. Trav isn't too keen on dealing with it but at the same time, it's like he wants another child

So anyway, I come home from school last night to find him very giddy and excited to tell me something. Apparently, he went looking again and found this adorable black/white medium haired kitten with large paws (looks like a Maine Coon almost). He immediately got attached to it but that's not what he was excited about. It was the fact that it was named Sheldon (who is our favorite character in one of our favorite shows, The Big Bang Theory). He thought it destiny and signed adoption papers for him right away.

So we'll have a new addition with us hopefully sometime next week. :] Hope Duchess won't mind...much.

  • Dress Like a Piece of Meat? Be Prepared to Be Treated Like a Piece of Meat.

So lately, I've been hearing a lot about "Slut Walk" rallies. The primary purpose of them is to rally against the fact that it's the victim's fault that she was raped because of the way she was dressed. They say that rapists are making excuses for their behavior and saying such things like, "she was asking for it by the way she was dressed." Now, while I don't believe that it's the victim's fault on ANY circumstances should they get raped and that girls still continued to get raped, even while they're dressed in normal fashion, I do believe that the way you dress can play a part in being raped. I'm NOT saying the victim is "asking for it" because she chooses to dress more revealing but at the same time, you are putting yourself out there more than others.

Now like I said, while a girl dressed in a normal jeans/tee/hoodie/etc. still has a chance in getting raped as much as the next woman, I believe those that dress more revealing have a greater chance of it. Sure, it's your hot body and you should be able to do what you want with it, but you need to be aware of ALL levels of attention you more than likely will get. If you go out at night, dressed in something completely revealing and basically have your goodies out there for everyone to see, don't be surprised if some sleazeball of a guy starts making passes at you or tries to fondle you. It happens. It's happened to me on a very mild degree. I found that if I wore a mini skirt with heels, I get all sorts of attention. Sometimes it was nice and other times it was nerve-racking because I would get unwanted comments from shady looking guys. Now, if I dressed conservatively, I barely get noticed. Not that I mind not getting as much attention if I choose to dress less "sexy", but the results were inevitable. I could only imagine what my results would have been had I been walking alone at night dressed in a mini skirt with heels.

The way I see it, if you were walking down the street, let's say naked, at night...are you telling me that your chances of getting raped are on the same level of the girl who is covered head to toe? Now, I know you're thinking that being naked and wearing something extremely revealing are two completely different levels, but is it? Sure, you're bearing ALL when you're naked but even if you're wearing a super tight mini dress with heels, you're still not leaving much to the imagination

I'm not saying you have absolutely no business or right wearing something revealing or provocative. If all men could be trusted, I would be all for it. Whatever floats your boat. But unfortunately, we don't live in such a world and not all men are taught better than to rape. So it's important to amp up any and all protection for your sake if you plan on dressing provocatively (you should still have plenty of protection regardless). It's important to be aware of the unwanted attention you will get - and you WILL get it. I'm not saying you're "asking for it," I'm just saying, if you dress like a piece of meat, be prepared to be treated like a piece of meat

  • West Memphis Three Are FREE.

I remember the first time I had heard about the WM3. I was at an Alkaline Trio show in Hollywood (back when I was on vacation). Matt Skiba, one of the lead singers of the band, had noted the particular date of that day and why it was so relevant (June 5th, I think?). He didn't tell us the WHOLE story (obviously it was a concert, not a talk show) but he told enough to peak my interest in the case. I remember going home that night and immediately looking up the case online and reading about it. While I'm not much for reading things that involve crimes cases, politics, etc. - it still intrigued me to try to maintain my attention span for just a little while.

It angered me after finding the reasons WHY they were convicted for the horrendous manslaughter of three little boys. These three teenagers, were convicted, based off of NO factual concrete evidence but by how they were dressed, the music they listened to, the books they read, they're interest in Satanism, etc. Bottom line, they were judged for who they were and not what they "did." It also made sense as to why they took them in was because the murder case had gained such widespread attention world wide, that it sounds like the courts panicked and chose the three teenagers because they were the closest people who could've done it based off their personal interests (I'm sorry, but just because there's a gothic person who is or has an interest in Satanism, doesn't automatically qualify him as a murderer). I was also reading the book, Devil's Knot, recently and I came across another piece of curious information:

"The officer left the Byerses' house, and within minutes was dispatched to another call, at a chicken restaurant about a mile away. She pulled up at the Bojangles drive-through at 8:42PM. Through the window, the manager reported that a bleeding black man had entered the restaurant about a half an hour before and gone into the women's restroom. The manager told the officer that the man, who had blood on his face and who had seemed 'mentally disoriented,' had wandered away from the restaurant just a few minutes before she arrived. When employees entered the restroom after he left, they found blood smeared on the walls. The officer took the report but investigated the incident no further. At 9:01, without ever having entered the restaurant, she drove away to a criminal mischief complaint about someone throwing eggs at a house."

Reading that, it just made me go WTF?!?! If there was a child missing...after dark...and there was a strange "mentally disoriented" black man covered in blood just wandering around...wouldn't you find it worth investigating?? I mean, SURE, that man could've been drunk/drugged out of his mind and that could've been his own blood from doing something stupid..but still...wouldn't it be safer to investigate it anyway? ::facepalm:: SMDH.

Whatever the case may be though, the WM3 are finally out after being locked away for 18 years and I just gotta say that I'm terribly happy for them. Absolutely thrilled. They deserved this. Though justice wasn't completely served as they technically had to plea guilty in order of their release, they're still free and innocent. Now they can breathe in the free air, touch the free ground, and just completely wallow in the feeling of being free. I can imagine it being quite emotional and exhausting for them at the same time. I know I was emotional watching the press conference. I just hope we can now expect great things from them in the future.
